Social Work Cover Letter

Social workers need a multitude of skills aimed at the wellbeing of individuals, families, groups and communities. Being able to function as therapists and having reliable contacts with psychiatrists and/or psychologists are other areas that are sometimes needed. Your cover letter must convey all or most of those skills in order to convince a new employer to hire you. Below is a nursing cover letter sample that can be followed for guidance when writing your own.

Dear Mrs. Cunningham,

I would like to thank you for the opportunity to contact you at CARD Inc and to present my resume as a social worker for your review. Your advertisement interests me as I feel I have the skills, qualifications and experience you require and expect your social workers to have. My personal contact information, academic record, professional social work certifications, qualifications and details of my career to date are all included on my attached resume.

My ten years of experience include being a one parent family social advisor and a community social worker in poorer urban areas of Coweta, Fl. I have completed many certification courses in social problems, political environment and development programs related to social work, and I am confident when dealing with community group work. I believe that this experience gives me the background required to fit the job vacancy you offer, and my qualifications are also in line with your requirements.

My ongoing development and training in child psychology allows me to examine and analyze a child’s play, behaviour and general lifestyle habits. This is an area of social work that interests me so much that I am presently taking a self funded university degree in child psychology that will give me greater working scope in my career. I have also undertaken training courses such as social environment and social welfare as a social institution.

I have recently worked as social advisor with child adolescents in a number of situations such as at camps, in community centers and in schools, where I amassed more awareness of underlying social problems and their probable cause. Helping others, especially children, can be a very rewarding career, and I strive for the perfect solution to every task I am set by my employers.

My experience and involvement in all of these social work areas has prepared me well and has given me the knowledge and strength to deal with awkward situations. Documenting all my house visits, meetings and interviews is a priority as soon as I return to my office. I sometimes seek advice from more experienced colleagues and even the courts, especially when young people are involved and are victims of family abuse.

I would be delighted to meet with you in person to discuss how I might fit in as a social worker in your organization. Thank you for taking the time from your busy schedule to review my resume. If you need any further information I can be contacted at the information above.

Respectfully yours,

Richard Leggett
