Administration Cover Letter

A position in administration requires a candidate to be able to manage and interact with staff, students and parents. In addition, administrators must also be flexible and able to multi-task. A resume for an administrator must be able to reflect that ability and show careful attention to detail. The following is a sample administration cover letter that highlights a candidate’s education and experience.

Cypress-Fairbanks, Independent School District

Dear Doctor Anthony,

I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself and submit my resume for the position in administration as an assistant superintendent for the Cypress-Fairbank, Independent School District. As you will note from my resume, I have considerable experience both in the class room and in administration here in Texas. These experiences will make me an excellent addition to your staff.

After graduating from Angelo State University with a bachelor’s degree in education, I spent three years as a science and social studies teacher (grades 6-7) at Aragon middle school. This rich experience within your district has provided me with an understanding of your student population that few candidates will be able to bring to the table. It also greatly improved my fluency in Spanish – a valuable skill to possess.

As much as I enjoyed my time in the classroom, I felt I could better serve the needs of the students of Texas in administration. As a result, I returned to school full-time at Texas A&M University, where I earned my master’s in educational administration. It is a move I have not regretted, because it has led to a very rewarding career as an administrator.

So far, I have enjoyed a total of ten years in administration. My first position was as an assistant principal for Brazos Middle School. My primary responsibility included student discipline, but I was required to step into the role of acting principal due to an automobile accident that required our principal be off for three months of rehabilitation.

Following that stint, I have spent the last seven years as a principal in two schools in the Dallas Independent School District: E. B. Comstock Middle School and Skyline High School. As a result, I have a wealth of experiences with a diverse population of students and staff and I also possess experience in diverse school settings.

Currently, I hope to secure a position as an assistant superintendent, and I can think of no better district than Cypress-Fairbank, Independent School District. As the largest district within the state of Texas, you will need someone with my varied background to serve the needs of your diverse student population.

Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to discussing how my professional background will benefit the Cypress-Fairbank, Independent School District. Please contact me using the information above to schedule an interview or ask any questions you may have.

Sincerely yours,

Renee Mcclellan
